The Government of Kerala (God’s Own Country) is focusing to boost the tourism in Kannur, once the port city popular for the spice farming and marketing. The tourism authorities are trying to develop the Malabar tourism in executing the infrastructural process that has no longer gestation time.
The Government of Kerala is going to take some good measures to project Northern part of Kerala to the global tourism by developing this place as an Eco tourism spot. They are taking an ambitious project to promote tourism to increase the rate of tourism growth by 2021.
P. Bala Kiran, Director of Kerala Tourism said that the Kannur airport should drive the growth for the tourism sector and enable the overall development of northern part of Kerala.
This international airport at Kannur will also result help in connecting the different palecs of South India and the Malabar regions. Last year, only 6000 of the million-odd foreign tourists to the Kerala visited Kannur and Kasaragod. Now, the Kannar will be under the banner of tourism destinations of Kerala. It is expected that, if the Kannaur airport will direct the tourism potentiality of the place, then it will increase the domestic and international tourists.
The government officials think that the Kannur Airport will be the pivot of the brand of Malabar Tourism. The tourism department is also launching Malanadu Cruise to promote tourism. It is linking eight rivers and backwaters of Kannur District and Kasaragod district, which portray the traditional arts, culture, heritage, cuisine, martial art forms, rustic life, and scenic beauty of Malabar coastline. Malanadu Cruise is a high potential project of Rs. 325-crore that will trigger the tourism of Bekal District, Kannur District and Kasargod District. Kerala Tourism is gearing up to open light and sound shows at Bekal and Kannur, music fountains, monsoon tourism in Wayanad. To attract both the national and international tourists to Malabar, there is a requirement of good and budget hotel properties in Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod. The construction of government tourist lodge is also in this project.
