The growing number of people taking to golf and the need to create infrastructure, the Tourism Department of Karnataka has announced incentives to those coming forward to invest in development of golf courses in the region. This in turn will attract international golfers to the state.
One of the latest trends in golf tourism is the fact that there has been a recent surge in the interest levels amongst youth, the world over. India has several golf courses of international standards.
The State will also offer subsidy and financial assistance to set up golf courses, considering golf to be amongst the fastest growing sport in India. This in turn will generate employment and revenue to the State.
The primary intention of this is to expand golfing activities across the State.
Currently, most of the golf courses in the State are concentrated in Bengaluru, and in Mysuru, Hubballi, Coorg, Chikamagalur and Mangaluru.
Golf events held in India also attract domestic and international tourists. With international tourists expected to grow in the next few years, it is important that India has the right product to meet the need of the visitors.
The order added that, development of good golf courses where international level tournaments could bring economic development to the State.
In order to tap this growing interest in golf tourism, Ministry of Tourism is creating a comprehensive and coordinated framework for promoting golf tourism in India, capitalizing on the existing work that is being carried out, and building upon the strength of India position as the fastest growing free market economy.
Chetan Meda, Director of Eagleton Golf Resorts, the first private golf resort in the country, said that more number of golf courses will help the game as it brings in more number of golfers.
