According to a report by the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies, Kenya is projected to record a 30 per cent increase in tourist arrivals from West Africa. The report shows that Kenya is the country most visited by West Africans after European nations.
Among the West African countries, Ghana and Nigeria contributing the biggest number of visitors to Kenya, as per the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies which has also called for more intra-African tourism to boost integration as well as the tourism sector on the continent.
The agency indicated that Nigeria is Kenya’s top tourist source market in West Africa, posting a 27.7 per cent increase to 17,962 arrivals in 2016, while Ghana recorded a 37.2 per cent growth to 8,391 visitors, up from 6,116 the previous year.
This growth in tourist numbers has been boosted by the travel trade which has identified Kenya as a priority destination for many visitors.
The tourism sector is expected to record increased growth this year with the government having introduced various tax incentives for the sector in the 2017/2018 fiscal year.
