Kenya is about to host the world’s largest consortium of tourist agents next month for pushing up the US visitor numbers by more than a third. Samson Some, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Kenyan Chapter President says that the ASTA Destination Expo 2017 will get underway in Nairobi next month and will offer Kenya a big chance for selling and promoting Kenyan tourism to the U.S.
To quote Mr. Some, “Agents who do day-to-day selling of this destination will get information at first hand. This is crucial so that when they get back to their country, they will build the profile and sell it to potential visitors.” With this expo, Kenya will be the second African country to host this event of the largest travel association in the world. Mr. Some said that bringing the largest travel association in the world to Kenya for a week for the expo gives the country a chance to match the growth path of South Africa. In his words, “South Africa was able to get 39 per cent increase in three years after the ASTA show and it has sustained the growth. That is what we are benchmarking on. No other conference has ever delivered this.” During the expo, there will be education and training for agents, followed by tours to various destinations.
