With the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) retaining its ranking as Africa’s leading tourism board for the fourth time in a row, Kenya’s tourism facilities have bagged nine prestigious awards at the 22nd World Travel Awards (WTA) gala ceremony held in Seychelles over the weekend.
The Maasai Mara Game Reserve was voted Africa’s leading National Park, Diani Beach clinched the award for Africa’s leading beach destination, Twiga Tours was ranked Africa’s leading luxury safari destination as well as Africa’s responsible tourism company while Carlson Wagonlit was named Kenya’s leading travel Management Company as well as Kenya’s leading travel company.
The 22nd Oscars of the travel industry awards were held at the Kempinski Resort in Mahe, Seychelles, and attended by players of the tourism industry from across the globe.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Kenya’s Commerce and Tourism Ministry Principal Secretary Dr Ibrahim Mohammed said the sterling performances by the industry would go a long way in building the country’s brand equity and called on the players in the sector to continuously improve on their service delivery.
“Hospitality industry has to keep pace with the changing needs of clientele and therefore a need for constant improvement of product and services. These awards Kenyan travel trade has received today are demonstration of services improvement,” he added.
The World Travel Awards are first given on a regional basis, with the winners qualifying for the grand finals of the World Travel Awards. Seychelles was the second stop of the 2015 grand tour which started in Dubai last month when nominees in the Middle East’s travel industry were recognized.
This year’s grand final, which will see winners from the all the regions converge in Morocco, will be held in December.
