Kerala’s Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Monday called for a statewide closure to protest against demonetization move by the Indian government recently, which affected cooperative banks, but kept the tourism industry outside this shutdown.
This direction was given by State Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran for excuse tourists and tourist vehicles from the shutdown. Police was also directed to keep an eye on this directive. Demonetization has affected the tourism industry with increased cancellations, so this move can be said to be timely one.
The shutdown has been scheduled from dawn to dusk. However, the opposition has attacked this move, saying it will cause problem to people. They are planning a protest show in front of the Raj Bhawan, the official residence of the Governor, to ask for lifting of the ban on the cooperative sector on account of demonetization.
