The Tourism Department of Kerala is showcasing the tourism destination and the natural beauty of “God’s Own Country” as an ideal tourism destination in India.
The Tourist Information Officer from Kerala, K.S. Shine told that Kerala had registered a growth in tourism in 2016 compared to the previous year.
As against the 9, 77,479 international tourists who visited Kerala in 2015, the number of tourists visited in 2016 was 10, 38,411 registering a growth of 6.25 percent. The arrival of 1, 31, 72,535 domestic tourists resulted in a growth of 5.67 %.
Kerala has number of places to see. Some of the most important tourism attractions in Kerala are Spice Tour, heritage tour in Fort Kochi, pilgrimage tourism in Muziris Biennale, which was under Muziris Heritage Project.
Kerala Tourism is now focusing on adventure tourism and ayurvedic tourism in promoting the different trekking, hiking destination and the comfortable and luxury spas. Now, Kerala is also projecting the wildlife tourism.
According to Mr. Shine, the liquor ban was one of the set back attitudes in Kerala. But it was in the beginning, but now the withdrawal of restrictions in liquor sale resulted in positive response toward the tourism industry.
Kerala is also promoting the massage centers and the luxurious spas in their new tourism campaigns. Kerala tourism was strictly adhering to the norms in classification of ayurvedic treatment centre’s under the labels Olive and Green. The domestic and international tourists were advised to go for the ayurvedic massages accorded by the tourism department.
According to K.S. Shine, Kerala is adequately equipped to grip a surge in tourists’ arrival with 75,000 comfortable, budget and luxurious rooms in more than 175 hotels and 317 classified hotels.
