download (3)Dubai Tourism South Africa recently took 8 key South African luxury travel trade buyers to the Middle East’s largest inbound and outbound travel trade show, Arabian Travel Market (ATM) which took place at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre on 4-7 May 2015.

ATM is the region’s leading industry showcase which in its 22nd year, welcomed over 2,700 exhibiting companies from 85 countries as well as 23,000 visitors. The show allowed for four days of business networking opportunities, insightful seminar sessions, ministerial discussions as well as recognition of 12 months of industry achievement in the region.

The South African group comprised of individuals from top luxury travel trade companies namely, Tsego Mabale from Duma Ice, Preshana Pillay from Incredible Vacations, Sandra Engelbrecht from BCD Travel, Johann Strydom from World Leisure Holidays, Elana van der Walt from United Europe, Thara Pillay from One Stop Travel and Jean Naidoo from Serendipity.

All South African guests were given the opportunity to set up meetings with ATM exhibitors in advance and they found the show to be very busy and popular with many prevalent sessions and productive meetings. Lucy Mussett, Account Manager for Dubai Tourism South Africa, found the international travel trade show to be a huge success for the South African travel market. “ATM was extremely busy, with the varying sessions being packed each time and clearly very popular. We had some fantastic meetings with industry partners, getting relevant product updates and necessary changes regarding their services etc.”

“Arabian Travel Market is one of the most important events on our calendar, and we look forward to building new relationships with travel and tourism partners, as well as strengthening existing ones. ATM provides the ideal platform for DTCM and Dubai stakeholders to showcase the many elements of the emirate’s destination offering from different perspectives – and the ongoing efforts to enhance these,” said Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

The South African guests, most of which had never visited Dubai before, were not only able to experience the launch of the new Taj Dubai, the official ATM 2015 party hosted by the Address Hotel Group, and the final closing party at Atlantis – The Chamber but they also enjoyed a jam-packed Dubai sightseeing itinerary. The festivities included visits to Sky Dive Dubai, Jumeriah Beach Hotel, the impressive Burj Al Arab, At the Top- Burj Kalifa, the luxurious Waldorf Astoria as well as the prestigious Platinum Heritage Desert Safari, a completely unique experience on the Sheik’s property. According to Mussett, it was “very cultural and something completely different to the normal dessert safari”.

The hosted guests were also given the opportunity to explore old Dubai by visiting the Dubai Museum, the world-renowned Dubai souks and they enjoyed a special flight over Dubai with Seawings as well. “Our trip to Dubai and Arabian Travel Market this year has been extremely fruitful and has given Dubai Tourism South Africa a wonderful opportunity to showcase Dubai to important members of the travel trade,” concluded Mussett.
