If the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, then the path to staying well in the city of a bridges begins with a single hotel. Downtown Pittsburgh’s newest hotel, Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, takes its guests’ get fit for summer resolutions into its own hands with four new wellness initiatives. Starting on June 3rd, in honor of National Running Day, Hotel Monaco rolls out its weekly manager-led group Bridge Run, custom jogging maps for guests to run “The City of Bridges” solo or with a friend, Trying to Triathlon outdoor exploration package, and an adapted breakfast menu in The Commoner with fit-chef selected Turbo Breakfast choices.
As a Kimpton hotel, the Monaco’s commitment to wellness is inherently part of its DNA, with a state-of-the-art fitness center, PUBLIC bicycles available for guests’ complimentary use, yoga mats in every guest room and fresh-squeezed juices. But, Hotel Monaco takes it one step further by adding its own local twist to the staying well experience. Every Wednesday morning at 6:30 a.m., and upon request otherwise, the hotel’s Stay Fit Concierge, revenue manager and resident fitness buff Melissa Braff, leads guests on a three- or five-mile Bridge Run through Downtown Pittsburgh, showing off the scenery of the stunning city. For those seeking a self-guided run, the Monaco has created customized running maps of the routes along with a legend of local sites and attractions that are available at the front desk.
“We know that staying healthy on the road can be one of the hardest parts of traveling. We want our guests to be able to remain health-conscious and still have fun while they are staying with us,” said Braff. “All of our new amenities will be great complements to Kimpton’s already existing wellness-focused treats, but allow us the opportunity to show guests what the beautiful City of Pittsburgh has to offer!”
For those looking for an even more robust Stay Fit-cation, Hotel Monaco debuts its Trying To Triathlon hotel package, which comes fully equipped with all of the makings of a well-stacked outdoor exploration. The Trying to Triathlon package includes overnight accommodations in one of the hotel’s luxurious rooms, a runner’s welcome amenity with the hotel’s customized running maps, a set of hotel provided bicycles, and a voucher for two to kayak with Venture Outdoors. After all of the outdoorsy activities, refuel at The Commoner with complimentary pressed juices for two.
And to round-out a fit stay, The Commoner’s executive chef Dennis Marron, who’s also a marathoner and overall fitness enthusiast, debuts his Turbo Breakfast selections on The Commoner’s weekday breakfast menu to help keep diets from taking a nosedive while traveling. The power selections range from the restaurant’s Norwegian dish consisting of smoked salmon, mini bagel and bagel chips, pickled red onion, capers and cream cheese to fiber-rich Oatmeal with brown sugar, dried cranberries and almonds. The Commoner Corner also features grab-and-go options including its fresh-squeezed juices such as the Being Green, a mix of cucumber, celery, apple, kale, lemon, and ginger and the Wild Child with parsley, kale, carrot, apple and seasonal edibles from wild purveyors.
