Named as ‘Russia’s most beautiful village’, historical village of Kinerma in Karelia is all set to welcome up to 4,000 tourists in 2017. This was said by the spokesperson of the Guest House Kinerma rural tourism center Nadezhda Kalmykova. In this year, around 3,000 tourists have visited the village. Kalmykova said that they are expecting more tourists next year and since the village was named Russia’s most beautiful village, it has attracted more tourists.
The history of the village dates back to 1563 and it means ‘precious land.’ The village at present has only 5 residents and six of the fifteen remaining houses, which are 100 to 200 years old, are considered architectural heritages. The village is visited by Russian and foreign tourists every year.
The Karelian Culture Ministry press service said, “The guests can stay in the village, taste the Karelian cuisine, have a look at exhibitions dedicated to the history of the village, attend various master classes to learn how to create traditional ritual dolls and make the traditional ‘kalitki’ cakes.” The village of Kinerma has been added to the Silver Ring of Russia inter-regional tourist route.
