kiplingWorld renowned wildlife conservation charity, the Born Free Foundation has joined forces with exclusive travel operator Greaves India and the sumptuous Taj Hotel Resorts and Palaces, to create Jungle Book Journies, a selection of luxury wildlife safaris through the jungle heartland of India, with an escorted tour departing this December.

Following the release of the magnificent Disney adaptation of the Jungle Book earlier this year, these bespoke safari itineraries offer guests the chance to experience the wonders of ‘Kipling country’, home to leopards, wild boar, sloth bear, wild dogs, monkeys and the iconic Bengal Tiger.

Escorted by an expert guide from the Born Free Foundation, the trip will also include the unique opportunity to see first-hand how Born Free works to protect India’s population of wild tigers from extinction, conserve its habitat throughout central India, and develop effective conservation projects to reduce conflict between people and these truly magnificent big cats.

The adventure will start in Delhi, with a night at the grand, iconic 5 star Taj Palace hotel, near India Gate. After a refreshing night’s sleep, a short flight to Jabalpur awaits, before a transfer to Bandhavgarh National Park, where guests will stay at the luxury Taj Safaris Mahua Kothi Lodge. Bandhavgarh, renowned for its hilly terrain and dense sal and bamboo forests, is the ideal habitat for a variety of wonderful and unique species. Guests will enjoy escorted game drives with Born Free’s India representative, Saket, as well as the opportunity to see vital tiger conservation work first hand.

From Bandhavgarh, the party will travel by road to Kanha, the inspiration for ‘The Jungle Book’ and home to 22 species of mammals and 230 species of birds. Staying at the Taj Safaris Banjar Tola, a luxury tented suite, guests will explore the savannah grasslands, lush deciduous forests and shady riverbanks in jeeps and also on foot, on a special guided walking tour. There will also be a visit to Born Free’s local conservation and community projects. Kanha’s abundant flora and fauna is protected by stringent conservation programmes, making it one of the best maintained national parks in Asia.

The tour finishes in Mumbai, where the group will enjoy dinner at one of the superb local restaurants, before flying home.

Mehra Dalton, MD of Greaves India and Trustee of Tour Operators for Tigers (TOFT), SAID: “With tiger numbers on the increase in India, there has never been a better time to visit the great parks of Madhya Pradesh, especially as it is well documented that conservation tourism is one of the best hopes to keep wildlife in the wild.”

This exclusive itinerary has been prepared by Greaves India, an award winning specialist tour operator that has been creating tailor made tours to the subcontinent for over 30 years, for the Taj Safaris and Born Free Partnership Group.

The tour will require a minimum of eight passengers to ensure that the tour goes ahead. The tour costs from £4,580 per person and includes BA flights, seven nights’ accommodation on full board at Taj Safaris Mahua Kothi Lodge, Bandhavgarh and Taj Safaris Banjaar Tola Kanha Tented Camp, internal flights, game drives, a donation to The Born Free Foundation and an escort throughout. The tour will include an overnight in Delhi.

Departing 29th November returning 8th December 2016.
