Klaus Froese, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Austrian Airlines, will join the Management Board of Lufthansa Passage as of September 1, 2015, succeeding Kay Kratky as COO. This was decided yesterday by the Management Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. Kratky will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Austrian Airlines in Vienna effective August 1, 2015, as already announced. In his new function Froese will also assume responsibility for the Lufthansa hub in Frankfurt and for overall flight operations. The succession decision at Austrian Airlines will be announced in the coming weeks.

Thomas Winkelmann, Spokesman for the Management Board of Germanwings GmbH since 2006, will also join Lufthansa Passage as of November 1, 2015. In addition to managing Lufthansa’s southern flight hub in Munich, Winkelmann will also be responsible for finance and controlling at Lufthansa Passage. Thomas Klühr, who manages this position at Lufthansa Passage so far, will be appointed to another management board position within the Lufthansa Group. Further details will be announced in September. Set up and structure of the management of Eurowings/Germanwings will also be decided this autumn.
Klaus Froese (52) commenced his career in aviation in 1987, serving as First Officer at Deutsche Luftverkehrsgesellschaft mbH, DLT, a predecessor to Lufthansa CityLine. He has served as a pilot in the Lufthansa Group since 1989, flying Embraer 120 and 190/195, Bombardier CRJ 200/700/900, Fokker 50, Boeing 737, Boeing 747 and also acting as training captain for the Airbus A320 fleet.
Klaus Froese began his management career whilst working as a pilot in 1998 when he was appointed Head of Quality Management. In 2002 he was named to the position of Head of the “Group Safety Pilot and Quality Management Operations” Department of Lufthansa. In 2006, Froese, who was born in Bonn, was appointed as the Managing Director of Lufthansa CityLine GmbH. In 2013 he joined Tyrolean Airways in Austria as its Managing Director. At the time of the fusion of Tyrolean and Austrian Airlines in 2015, he was named COO with responsibility for the entire flight operations of Austrian Airlines.
