This is because this country is planning to build a greater number of maritime facilities with an aim to draw 2 million cruise tourists from different parts of the world, as asserted by the government of Korea on Monday.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that it would be holding an event entitled ‘Port Sales’ in the various cities of Japan, China, United States, starting from March. Travel agencies and major cruise liners would be attending this event.
It would also build five more cruise docks in four seaports.
This would include Incheon and Busan and add to the current six.
Furthermore, it would also expand terminals there with a view to absorb the growing number of cruise passengers. The cruise industry is among the fastest-evolving sectors of Asia thanks to the massive demand from China.
As much as nearly 1.95 million tourists had visited South Korea through the cruise line in 2016.
There were 791 port entries. For the year 2017, the government of South Korea is expected to attract over 2 million cruise tourists with 986 arrivals.
Since the year 2010, the number of cruise travellers to South Korea has risen to an annual rate of 47%. And, the figure had reached 1 million in 2015 for the very first time.
