The tourist guidance mechanism in the Kozhikode city is often conferred as deficient as majority of the visitors get no idea of where to go and how to go. Greater part of the cultural and historic landmarks has not been appropriately showcased in Kozhikode besides the Mananchira ground, the pond overlooking it, the Kozhikode beach, and the Tali temple. Same is the case with the tourism destinations in the district.
Everything is not well with the tourism sector of this district, as mentioned by Benoy Venugopal, who recently took over as the secretary of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). To quote him, ‘For a long time, the DTPC did not have a full-time secretary. Many projects were initiated but at least some of them are stuck in the middle. There were no proper materials. We are trying to change the scenario’. Mr. Venugopal further highlighted that unlike Wayanad, there are not many non-governmental organizations associated with travel in the district. There are not ample travel planners either. He said, ‘I believe a proper blueprint for tourism development could not be developed in the district because of various reasons. For example, Kozhikode was once part of the spice route. We need to highlight such facts.’
