Organised in conjunction with the National Blood Centre and themed ‘Thank you for saving my life’, in line with World Blood Donor Day 2015 on 14 June, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s annual Blood Donation Campaign collected over 40,000 ml, or 40 litres, from 98 donors.
For first timer Jamilah Binti Eusope, Operation Services Assistant in the Centre’s Operations Department, “my initial nervousness was quelled by the thought that my actions will benefit someone and who knows, one day I might be the one needing blood.“It was also reassuring to have other team members around, doing their bit and I will encourage more of my workmates and friends to participate next year.”
She said having the NBC come to the work place made the decision to donate easier and Thanking the Centre and the 98 donors for their support, the NBC’s Dr Wan Hidayu Wan Ahmad said it was heartening to see the first timers conquer their fear as “every drop (of blood) collected counts and helps us reach our weekly target of 5,000 pints.“The convenience of donating via mobile collection also seems to encourage more Malaysians to participate. So we hope more organisations will jump on the bandwagon and collaborate with the NBC to host blood donation events at their premises.”This year’s (2015) blood drive is the Centre’s eighth consecutive campaign and saw generous donors from both team members and the public.
