KUWAIT: Some residents in northern Kuwait felt the temblor that struck an area near the Iran-Iraq borders Sunday, Director of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research’s National Seismological Network said.

Dr Abdullah Al-Enezi said in a statement that people in northern Kuwait felt the tremor at 5:15 pm. However, no one was hurt and no material damage was reported.

According to the Iranian state news agency, IRNA, the earthquake hit Gilan Gharb in Kermanshah province in western Iran, injuring about 31 people, most of them lightly.

Initially, the US Geological Survey (USGS) put the magnitude of the quake at 5.9, but revised this later to 5.5.
