Lake Como new initiative designed to reduce pollution and facilitate the ease of using electric cars, bikes and boats for the first time has made it the first ‘electric’ destination in Europe.
Grandi Giardini Italiani, one of the Italy’s largest historic gardens and destinations network launched it. Spread across 170 kilometers around the Lake Como, this is Europe’s first widespread infrastructure having 19 charging points for electric cars, boats and bikes in one single location.
The motive of Como-The Electric Lake is to significantly improve the air quality and reduce noise pollution.
Lake Como stands out as an ideal location for the Eco-enterprise as it is the birthplace of Alessandro Volta,a physicist and noble man who invented the first electric battery 200 years back.
The facility was installed by the Tesla Destination Charging programme. Through this the travellers can use electric and eco-friendly vehicles in the Lake Como region for the first time.
The GGI is supported by 27 stakeholders inclusive of national heritage administrators, hoteliers and municipalities that ate collectively responsible to improve the air quality and maintain Italy’s artistic heritage.
