Seven tourists were lucky enough to escape with just a few bruises and scratches after they had been swept away into the sea by large waves in the region of Dwejra yesterday, according to the version of the police.
One of the tourists was from Belarus, while the two others were Dutch and four of them were English tourists.
They had been enjoying the scenery and they had failed to notice that they had actually ventured quite close to the sea around 3 p.m. During this point of time, the winds started getting rough and their speeds began to pick up.
The Northwest gale force winds drew a large number of tourists to that area.
This is simply due to the fact that tourists are capable of enjoying breathtakingly beautiful views of the iconic Dwejra window in Gozo in this area.
The police said that a large wave suddenly absorbed all the seven tourists into the water that provided some of the most terrifying moments to tourists. This lasted for a few seconds. However, the tourists were quite lucky because they did not drown in the sea.
This implies that they were able to make their way back to the shores on their own, without any assistance.
They were still taken to the hospital because they needed a certain amount of medical attention since they had sustained some bruises and scratches as they were beaten against the rocks in the ordeal. The Civil Protection Department, Armed Forces personnel and the police were present on the site to assist them.
