LATAM Airlines connects Peru’s principal tourist destinations with non-stop flights from Cusco

LATAM - LOGO - FONDO INDIGOLATAM Airlines Peru announced today that it will operate non-stop flights between Cusco and Pisco (Peru) from 14 June 2018 (subject to regulatory approval). The flight will operate on Thursday and Sunday on a seasonal basis until the end of November 2018, with tickets on sale from today.

“This is the third interregional route that LATAM has announced from Cusco this year and represents our commitment to improving connectivity in Peru as well as providing passengers with travel options and varied itineraries to suit their needs”, said Félix Antelo, General Manager, LATAM Airlines Peru.

The Cusco-Pisco service will complement LATAM’s new Cusco-Trujillo and Cusco-Iquitos routes, which will also operate on a seasonal basis between July and November 2018, enabling passengers to travel directly between Peru’s principal tourist destinations without needing to connect via Lima.

“Many of Peru’s international tourists visit the historic city of Cusco and nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu. Currently, those wanting to travel to other destinations in Peru have to travel via Lima, but with these new flights we will provide more convenient access to some of the other unique attractions that the country has to offer,” added Antelo.

LATAM will offer up to an average of 23 daily flights between its Lima hub and Cusco during July-November 2018, when the seasonal flights from Cusco are in operation.

Located in the Ica region on the Pacific coast of Peru, Pisco is small port town that is renowned for its bird and marine life with easy access to the nearby Paracas National Reserve and Ballestas and Chincha islands. The town is also approximately three hours’ drive from the world-famous Nazca Lines, a series of large ancient geoglyphs that have been carved into the sand – some of which are up to 370 metres long – and depict hundreds of images, ranging from simple geometric shapes to animals such as birds and monkeys.

Pisco is also famous for the production of the grape spirit of the same name and the Paracas Candelabra, a 180-metre tall geoglyph similar to the Nazca Lines.

Known as the ‘capital of the Peruvian Amazon’, Iquitos is located in the Great Plains of the Amazon Basin to the east of the Andes and is surrounded by the Amazon, Nanay and Itaya rivers. With 471,993 inhabitants, it is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road and is accessible only by air or river. Attractions include its distinct Amazonian culture and cuisine as well as the surrounding rivers and forest, much of which are still untouched and home to species of flora and fauna that are unknown to science.

Located on the northwest coast of Peru and known as ‘the city of eternal spring’ – thanks to a pleasant year-round climate, Trujillo is a city of great cultural and architectural heritage. It is close to two major pre-Columbian archeological sites: Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the ancient world, which UNESCO designated a World Heritage Site in 1986; and the temples of the Sun and Moon, which is the largest adobe pyramid in Peru. The city also offers world-class beaches and water sports – particularly surfing and kitesurfing – as well as prized gastronomy and hotels.

In total, LATAM will fly to seven destinations from Cusco in 2018: Arequipa, Juliaca and Puerto Maldonado, Pisco, Iquitos, Trujillo and its Lima hub, where it serves 17 destinations throughout Peru as well as 32 cities in the United States, Europe and Latin America.
