LATAM Airlines, South America’s largest airline, is all set to commence a direct service between Chile and Victoria next year.
The airline would operate a tri-weekly service, and become the only carrier to offer the route, Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren announced.
The new service will boost tourism and trade, creating jobs for Victorians.
“Nothing helps more to boost two-way tourism and trade than direct flights between countries. Direct flights between Melbourne and Santiago will significantly boost our relationship with Latin America,” Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade Philip Dalidakis said.
Melbourne Airport is now home to 31 international airlines – and that means more visitors than ever before can come here from right around the world and see for themselves the best of everything Victoria offers.
Once LATAM Airlines commences its new service, more than 46,000 international flights to the airport will operate each year.
LATAM’s Santiago to Melbourne service begins in October 2017.
