The recent merger of Chilean LAN Airlines and Brazilian based TAM Airlines in 2012, to form LATAM Airlines Group, has opened up South America for groups and business travellers, facilitating ease of travel throughout the region. This year the airline will exhibit at AIME under the new brand for the first time, along with eleven operators from South America.
LATAM Airlines is now one of world’s largest airline groups in terms of network connections, operating flights to over 150 destinations in 22 countries, through the Chilean gateway city of Santiago.
Johanna Raeder, marketing manager Asia Pacific says the merger has strengthened the airlines offering and the industry in South America see a lot of potential to attract more groups from Asia Pacific.
“With a South American network this comprehensive, LATAM has an exceptional offering for the MICE market. The group serves key destinations for meetings and conventions and offers easy connections to inspiring post touring and incentive options; Machu Picchu, Iguassu Falls and the Galapagos to name a few.
“There is a clear interest from the industry to draw more groups from Asia Pacific to South America and that is why we have been able to attract eleven operators to join us at AIME 2013,” said Ms. Raeder.
A range of product from Chile, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Bolivia will be joining LATAM at AIME, including cruising product, hotels and ground operators. Partners, Delfin Amazon Cruises, Lima Tours, Milenaria DMC , Condor Travel, Aqua Expeditions, Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, Surtrek, Galapagos Experience, Klein Tours and Blumar will all be available for meetings at stand 3724.
Connecting Australia to South America, LAN Airlines currently offers six one-stop flights per week between Sydney and Santiago, and three non-stop codeshare flights operated by oneworld airline alliance partner Qantas. Onward connections are available to over 80 destinations in 10 South American countries, and beyond to other major markets including North America and Europe.
Between Australia and South America, LAN operates Airbus A340-300 aircraft, offering today’s business travellers state-of-the-art flat-bed seating, personal 15.4-inch entertainment screens and premium on-board services and amenities in its Premium Business Class.
In late 2012 LAN announced a range of innovative and fresh features and amenities in all its classes including revamping the look and feel of pillows and duvets and introducing a new amenity kit for LAN Premium Business class in partnership with luxury brand, Salvatore Ferragamo.
