For a second consecutive year, the Launceston Airport has grabbed a Gold Tasmanian Tourism Award in the ‘Specialized Tourism Services’ category, as declared on Friday at the 2019 Tasmanian Tourism Awards.
The Chief Executive from the top tourism body of the state, Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), stated that the airport was one of the prime regional airports in Australia that was all geared up to serving as a genuine gateway to Tasmania.
Launceston Airport General Manager, Paul Hodgen explained that he was quite proud to receive the honor once again.
“Launceston Airport is the main tourism gateway to Northern Tasmania and I am overjoyed that we have been awarded with a Gold Tasmanian Tourism Award for a second time, cementing our position as an industry leader,” said Hodgen.
“We have been squarely focused on putting Launceston and the surrounding region ‘on the map’ through our marketing efforts ranging from in-terminal activation’s to competitions and inflight reading material.”
“One of our biggest highlights was the wrapping of a Jetstar A320 aircraft in an eye-catching Launceston livery, which has made more than 750 trips, visiting 18 domestic airports and two international airports.”
While replying to the constant growth in tourism visitation, in recent months the airport has enhanced the capacity of its car rental bay by 20 per cent, and installed undercover walkways to and from the terminal.
“As we head toward the end of the year we are keen to work with Tourism Tasmania, major event partners and airlines to encourage travelers to ‘Come Down for Air, by air of course.”
“I am very proud of our staff and thank our airline customers, travelers and community for their support.”
