The wet play area – a fun aqua playground where park users enjoy play equipment with water features including a giant bucket which tips onto delighted users – was closed last month for works on the softfall landing area.
The landing area is made from thermal plastic and ensures park users have a soft landing and safe grip surface to stand on while using the play equipment.
Replacement of the softfall surface was carried out under the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Repairs and Maintenance program. The project started on May 11 and was recently completed.
“Not only will park users enjoy the use of a newly refurbished landing facility, but the area is now much more vibrant featuring a bright new colour scheme and animal motifs,” Sport and Recreation Minister Gary Higgins said.
“The softfall area was last replaced in 2011 and it was important for us to do this work as part of our commitment to keeping this facility in good working condition for the enjoyment of Territory families.
“We thank park users for their patience while these works took place, and wish local and visiting families a happy and safe school holiday period where they will be able to enjoy the facility.”
The Leanyer Recreation Park wet play area will be open from 10am to 6pm and the slide area open from 11am to 6pm each day of the school holiday period.
