The total number of visitors to Lima last year increased 4.10% over 2013, when 4.9 million were registered.
Four of the five feeder cities by international overnight visitors are within the Latin American region: Santiago, Buenos Aires, Bogota and Mexico City.
Santiago, in Chile, was Lima’s first biggest feeder city in 2014 with 849 thousand visitors, who in total spent US$207 million. Miami in the US is Lima’s second biggest feeder city, with 527 thousand visitors.
Mexico City, fifth biggest feeder city, saw a 12.5% increase in the number of locals visiting the Peruvian capital from 2013.
Overall, 56 percent of Lima’s visitors came from outside of the region.
The report also details the top five origin countries in 2013 were United States (19%), Chile (7%), Colombia (7%), Brazil (6%) and Venezuela (6%), among others (55%).
Mexico City is ranked second among destination cities in Latin America, while Sao Paulo is ranked third.
Punta Cana, which replaces Santiago in this edition, is in fourth, followed by Buenos Aires. Caracas falls out of the top ten to 11th place with the entry of Punta Cana.
