The United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) 12th Excellence and Innovation in Tourism awards has named a treetop walkway in Lithuania’s Anykščiai as one of the most innovative tourism projects. Anykščiai treetop walk was one of the five finalists for the UNWTO Award for Innovation in Enterprises.
Sixteen tourism projects have been shortlisted for UNWTO awards in four categories. The award was presented on Wednesday in Madrid.
The treetop walking path is a project by Anykščiai Regional Park. The canopy walkway was officially opened last August in eastern Lithuania.
The treetop walk, meandering in the picturesque forest of Anykščiai Regional Park, is the first and so far only such structure in Lithuania and Eastern Europe. The treetop walking path is a 300-metre walkway rising to 21m above ground.
It has been very popular with domestic and international tourists since its opening.
