On Monday, two local summer events received financial boost from the London City Tourism Commission. The Laurel County Homecoming and World Chicken Festival were both approved funding by the four tourism board members.
The Laurel County Homecoming will receive $5,000 for their August event which will celebrate its 82nd year, which is one of the oldest festivals of its kind in the state. The city tourism commission approved funding of $50,000 to the 28th World Chicken Festival for them to provide a better quality of entertainment.
The consent to fund $50,000 again this year came unanimously from the four commissioners present – Dezarn, Handy, Berry and Holly Little. Board members Troy House and Judy Barnett were not present for Monday night’s meeting.
The next meeting of the London City Tourism & Convention Commission will be on Monday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m. Many other events also received boost from the city tourism commission.
