The London Ringette Association is pleased to announce it has been selected to host the 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships. The event, which will have approximately 48 teams competing, will be held April 3 to 9, 2016 at the Western Fair Sports Centre and Nichols Arena.
“The London Ringette Association is no stranger to hosting successful sporting events, as can be seen from the successful U19 World Ringette Championship they organized in 2012,” said Jane Casson, Ringette Canada president. “We would like to congratulate them on being selected to host our 2016 national championships and we look forward to working together to provide another outstanding event.”
The championships will host approximately 48 teams from across the country, with athletes competing in three divisions – U16, U19 and the National Ringette League (NRL) division (19+). It is expected the event will bring in over 3000 visitors to the region.
Cheryl Finn, director, Sport Tourism for Tourism London said, “The 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships will be another feather in the cap of national sport hosting for the City of London! We are very excited to have this event in our city as it will bring large numbers of competitors and visitors but more than that, will raise awareness for the great sport of ringette. Our local ringette community remains one of the strongest in the country and it is always great when they are rewarded with an event of this magnitude!”
“We are very excited for the opportunity to host the 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships,” said Kevin Knight, host committee chair. “We are confident that we will provide a memorable experience for the athletes and be able to showcase our great sport in London.”
The 2014 championships will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan, while the 2015 event will be held in Woods Buffalo, Alberta.
