New data released from Flash Pack reveals the gin capitals of the world, according to Instagram. The travel company combined over 3,600 uses of the most popular gin hashtags on Instagram including #Gin, #Ginlovers and #Ginoclock, to create an interactive map that shows who’s drinking the most gin and where. There’s no surprise that London has been crowned the ‘Gin capital of the world’ as a result of the research.
Most city slickers around the world enjoy a tipple or two, so when Flash Pack matched the most popular gin hashtags used on Instagram to their nearest city location using Google’s API tool, the research revealed London is the ‘gin capital of the world’. With over 130 uses of the hashtags located in the city, us Brit’s love a classic G&T. In 2016, Brits thirst for gin saw spend an incredible £1million per day on gin!
London’s love of gin has seen the number of distilleries double over the last 6 years with 46 opening in last year alone, and the Wine and Spirit Trade Association’s latest Market Report shows that gin and tonic is not restricted to the summer months as sales continue to fizz into the festive period. If you’re looking enjoy a gin tipple or two this season, you can head to bars such as Coburg Bar and Four Thieves.
In second place in the gin stakes, we have Berlin in Germany with the combined hashtags being used 78 times in the famous European city. The Big Apple comes in at third place as New Yorkers have used the various popular gin hashtags 54 times.

Even though London has taken the top spot, the research reveals that Australians have a passion for gin with three cities including Broadbeach, Melbourne and Healesville in the top 10 in comparison to the UK which only has two; London and Edinburgh. It’s also surprising to see that Brazilian’s have two major cities in the top 10 with Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
