The commuters and travellers in London are facing a real crisis as the Southern Rail authority is cancelling numerous trains per day. The railway has been already cancelling around 250 trains per day. But a new permission was given to the rail authorities by the Government, to introduce an emergency timetable that will allow them to cancel another 350 trains per day.
The Southern Rail authorities are blaming industrial action, staff shortage and high level of staff sickness as the reason behind this disruption.
At this moment, the Southern Rail provides passengers with train service between Central London and the South coast, through Surrey, West and East Sussex, Kent and Hampshire.
Around 165 million passengers commute through the Southern Rail each year.
With the large number of train cancellation, the commuters will face a delay of an hour and half instead of just 30 minutes.
Spokesperson of the Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers has stated that the Southern Rails have been wrecking the lives of people for too long.
A spokesperson of the Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has stated that the details of a temporary timetable will be confirmed during the first week of July. It has been stated that the timetable will give the passengers a more predictable rail service. He has stated that it is just a temporary measure until the crew availability level returns to normal.
Spokesperson for the Transport Department has informed that GTR is considering changes to strengthen their timetable to render as many services as possible.
