After clashes broke out between peak-hour passengers and activists who disrupted travel in the British capital, London commuters dragged climate change protesters off the top of trains on Thursday.

Parts of the city’s transport network was brought to a grinding halt after protesters from the global environmental movement Extinction Rebellion climbed onto the carriages and glued themselves to trains.

In the east London station of Canning Town that read : “ Business as usual= Death” banner was hung by demonstrators who were forcing the government action on ecological breakdown.

The angry commuters took action into their own hands after the trains stopped at the stations and videos on social media revealed that large crowd was shouting at a protester on top of a train and throwing objects at him. A commuter grabbed his ankles and dragged him off the roof.

There were physical altercations started by the crowd which came to an end after the station staff and other passengers intervened.

Due to the obstructions incidents at Stratford and Canning Town four people have been arrested.

The specialist teams were working to remove four other protesters while the BPT was at still at Shadwell Station.

Many took to social media and criticized Extinction Rebellion’s action as ‘hypocritical’ which forced passengers to take taxis to work.

However, according to Extinction Rebellion the actions were necessary to bring about the type of radical changes which were necessary to reverse the climate change.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan condemned protesters for the action mentioning that it was dangerous, counterproductive and unacceptable disruption to Londoners who use the public transport to get to work.

The mayor requested the demonstrators to protest peacefully and within the boundaries of the law, further stating that their action was an unfair burden on an already overstretched police force.

Extinction Rebellion said that after the fights broke out that the protesters had understood that violence ‘was a possibility’ and they are willing to go prison for their cause.

The central London Underground lines because it would have a severe impact upon business within the capital.

As per the Transport for London site normal service was now resumed across London’s transport network.

Other lines are operating as usual but were wary of further scuffles-the Metropolitan Line posted. It requested the commuters not to attack the protesters or resort to violence.
