The International Olympic Committee recently voted to name hosts for the successive Games where Paris and Los Angeles were the only one to bid.
Initially both the countries were seeking to host the 2024 event and it was not disclosed which country will host which year.
$1.8 billion will be contributed by the IOC to the organizing committee of the Los Angeles games. The funds will further be utilized to pay for the extended planning period and to support youth sports programmes in the city.
Thomas Bach, IOC president that he was pleased the Host City contract 2028 in a transparent and timely manner and the IOC welcomed the decision of the Los Angeles Olympic & Paralympic Candidature Committee.
The city will have more access of the youth to sport that will encourage a healthy lifestyle of Angelenos for the next 11 years.
The tripartite agreement under the leadership of the IOC with LA and Paris in August is bound to create a win-win-win situation for all three partners.
In September the agreement will be put forward to the IOC Session in Lima for corrections.
The IOC wanted Los Angeles and Paris to reach an agreement before the session in September.
As Budapest, Hamburg and Rome withdrew the two cities were the only ones left in the race for 2024.
Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo said that Paris and Los Angeles are two amazing global cities that are united in their support of the Olympic cause.
He further mentioned that they should stand together to help the Games thrive in 2024 and 2028. The dialogue between the IOC and the two cities is progressing well and he was confident that a ‘win-win-win’ agreement can be finalised ahead of the IOC session in Lima.
