AirChannelChoice.travel, a Business Travel Coalition initiative, will host a Tuesday, July 28 Orlando, FLA briefing and Happy Hour reception celebrating the benefits for the managed-travel community of choice in travel distribution. Without consultation, with travel management companies (TMCs) or travel managers, the Lufthansa Group (LHG) recently announced a proposal to surcharge customers 16 Euro if they purchase a ticket anywhere other than through LHG beginning September 1, 2015. If implemented as currently proposed, the scheme would have negative worldwide implications for the competitive structure of the industry, TMCs and their clients.
AirChannelChoice.travel founder Kevin Mitchell will provide remarks during the reception highlighting the adverse and far-reaching consequences this surcharge plan would cause to the modern managed-travel model and best-practice processes as well as steps attendees can take to petition their regulators in their home countries. The highlight of the reception will be the final gathering of signatures and transmission in real-time of a travel industry signatory letter to LHG and competition authorities in Bonn, Brussels and Washington. The briefing and Happy Hour reception, which begins Tuesday, July 28 at 6:00pm and runs till 7:30pm, is open to all travel managers, TMC executives, travel association officers and members of the press.
