Lufthansa Cargo’s aid organisation and German doctors extend their support

LufthansaThe provision of rapid and unbureaucratic help for poor and sick people in Nairobi and the surrounding areas that is the aim of Cargo Human Care (CHC). The registered charity organization, which was founded in 2007 by employees of Lufthansa Cargo together with doctors, has now extended the range of medical services it offers: as of now once a month a cancer screening consultation focusing on the theme of cervical cancer will be offered. This condition is increasingly appearing especially in developing countries and is curable if the right therapy is started in good time.


Consultations and examinations are all conducted in the Medical Center of Cargo Human Care. There, CHC also provides medical prophylaxis with vaccination consultations and prenatal care. Primarily children from the adjacent CHC orphanage, Mothers’ Mercy Home, as well as needy people from the surrounding area receive medical care in the Medical Center.


A total of 37 German doctors from the most varied fields of medicine work in an honorary capacity for CHC. Three times a month meanwhile, the doctors involved fly to Kenya for three days each to treat the needy patients. Since 2008 they have registered a total of around 1,700 days in Kenya. On average, around 2,000 patients are cared for every month.


Lufthansa Cargo has been supporting CHC ever since its foundation through the provision of free freight capacities on board of the MD11F freighters and provides the flight tickets for the German doctors.


Since 2011, the organization has been offering its supporters the chance to act as a godparent for sick, handicapped and neglected children in the neighbourhood of the Mothers Mercy Home orphanage. It covers school fees, medical care and support for the parents with their everyday living costs and the necessary living aids.
