Tobago Plantations Golf Course is a unique Caribbean landmark having hosted the 2004 Senior European Tour.
The refurbished course will open for business on 1st December 2013.
The PGA designed championship golf course is undergoing an extensive US$2,000,000 refurbishment. Having already invested $700,000 in golf carts, turf equipment, hospitality upgrades, training and repositioning, the course is not only a sports tourism initiative but will also become an anchor for local activities and advancement within the PGA goals for the Caribbean.
The unique Par-72 18-hole course has been woven into the landscape of an old coconut plantation which has been sensitively modified to utilise the indigenous plants that surround it and to increase the diversity of habitat for the local wildlife.
The landscape varies greatly throughout the course with lakes, woodland copses, beaches, mangroves and wild grasses providing each hole with a very distinct character. There are characterisitic pot bunkers dunk into the greensides and a Par 4 that heads out onto the peninsula where the Atlantic Ocean breeze comes into play and golfers can enjoy panormaic views of Scarborough, the capital of Tobago.
Under the management of the resort, the Tobago Plantations Golf Club will benefit from extensive upgrades including, cosmetic enhancements to the club house and its surroundings, driving range, tee boxes and it will import sand from Guyana to upgrade the bunkers.
The Club House includes a pro-shop, club room lounge, shoes and club rental, spa, fitness centre, sauna, changing rooms and a restaurant which will be upgraded and be open for business on 1 November with a fantastic inclusive menu of food and beverages.
Guests can also tailor their golf programme to include individual or group tuition, half or full day formats, three to five day programmes, corporate golf days or specialised clinics.
From 2014 guests will also be able to book online, and juniors under 15 will receive a 50% discount on their green fees.
The 178-room Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort is Tobago’s premier leisure and business hotel. Located on the 750 acre Tobago Plantations Estate, the resort features five fine and casual dining options, an 18-hole PGA-designed championship golf course, multiple swimming pools, a spa and the only five star PADI dive centre on the island. The hotel is also home to the largest conference, meeting and events space on the island which includes a ballroom and four separate meeting rooms.
