Nancy Marshall Communications (NMC) is pleased to announce it has been named the agency of record for The Orvis Company, Inc., a worldwide retail and travel brand focused on conservation, headquartered in Manchester, Vermont. NMC will manage public relations for the company, and create a Marshall Plan®, the agency’s trademarked marketing communications plan.
“Working with Orvis is a culmination of all my career experiences over the past 35 years, including all of our travel and tourism, outdoor recreation, and environmental public relations clients,” said Nancy Marshall, CEO of NMC. “When I met the team at Orvis, I told them that everything my team had done thus far was leading up to this opportunity to work with them. They wanted an agency that shared their earnest enthusiasm for the outdoors and they felt we were a good match. We feel so honored and privileged to represent their brand to the media, and to be part of the amazing work they are doing around the world to preserve and sustain the environment. I admire them for their staunch commitment to protecting our natural resources.”
Founded in 1856, Orvis believes the most meaningful experiences are created by sharing the love of nature and being inspired by its endless possibilities. They aim to inspire every one of their customers to feel a sense of awe and wonder in nature. Orvis pioneered the mail order industry in the United States, operates more than 80 retail stores in the U.S and the U.K., and maintains a network of more than 400 dealers worldwide as a trusted source of discovery and adventure in the natural world. The company promises to open the door to extraordinary outdoor experiences, and to protect nature by committing 5% of its pretax profits each year to conservation efforts worldwide.
In addition to being the world leader in fly fishing, Orvis offers a wide assortment of men’s and women’s sportswear, fine gifts and home furnishings, luggage and travel accessories, and dog beds and other pet items, as well as fine shotguns, gear, and technical apparel for wing shooting and sporting clays. Orvis sporting services also include fishing and shooting schools, an international sporting and eco-travel agency, and the Orvis-endorsed network of lodges, outfitters and guides.
Simon Perkins, Orvis director of brand marketing, said, “Nancy Marshall and her team are energetic, enthusiastic and full of innovative promotional ideas. At the same time, they know how to listen. They have a real affinity for the Orvis brand, and we look forward to implementing some exciting campaigns with them.”
Orvis is deeply committed to protecting the world’s natural resources. Perk Perkins, CEO of Orvis, institutionalized the company’s dedication to conservation: Orvis commits 5% of pretax profits annually to protecting and sustaining the natural world. Orvis gives in three ways: their annual Customer Matching Grant program, non-matching grants to a wide variety of conservation organizations, and donations to the communities in which they operate and where more than 1,700 associates live. Over the past 28 years, Orvis has raised and donated more than $20 million for a wide variety of conservation programs, including The Nature Conservancy, the National Wildlife Federation, Trout Unlimited and the Everglades Foundation.
