The blaze affected the electric cabling and the power to the tracks before it was switched off.
Services in the South West Trains were severely disrupted and passengers were told not to travel unless they had to. Several passengers were stranded across the station as most trains were full to capacity.
The firefighters could easily complete the task once the power was isolated. A lot of electric cabling was affected.
Normal travel was gravely affected, the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The rail company at present is being able to use five out of eight main lines with delays of as much as 60 minutes. The service will continue to remain limited until the lines are reopened. The lines affected are London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside, Hounslow and Twickenham and Kingston and Richmond and will either terminate or start at Clapham Junction.
The services from Farnham to London Waterloo via Ascot; Shepperton to London Waterloo via Twickenham will not be available owing to the present situation. Other services between London Waterloo and Portsmouth stations and Woking and Guildford and trains between London Waterloo and Salisbury and Exeter St Davids will start and terminate at Basingstoke. London Waterloo to Reading and London Waterloo to Weybridge will run at their usual. The other suburban lines may suffer disruption.
