Anyone planning to travel during August – particularly over the bank holiday – is advised to check their journeys on the National Rail website as early as possible. There will be significant changes to train services across the country, especially on lines to and from London, including the West Coast Mainline.
Work at and on lines into Waterloo, London Bridge, Euston, Liverpool Street and Paddington will affect services to and from these stations.London’s Marylebone, King’s Cross, St Pancras and Victoria stations are likely to be busier than usual as people travel on alternative routes and services are diverted.
There will also be essential work in the Midlands, and across the North as part of the Great North Rail Project – allow more time if you’re travelling between Manchester, Bolton and Preston from 12-28 August.
While there is never an ideal time to carry out engineering work on the railway, our improvements programme takes place when the railway is quietest – up to 50 per cent fewer passengers travel on bank holidays and in summer.
