Little Raef Uqael suffers from a liver disease and is at the end-stage of his disease. He will be under-going a liver-tranplant at a hospital in Shanghai, with his father as organ donor.
Raef departed from KL International Airport on MH386, 7 May at 1.40am and arrived in Shanghai at 7am the same day. They are expected to return to Kuala Lumpur sometime in August 2015 on MH389.
Prior to the family’s departure, the airline’s senior management team and operations staff spent time with them at Malaysia Airlines’ Golden Lounge, to ensure that the family receives extra care.
Speaking at the send-off, Malaysia Airlines’ Regional Senior Vice President Malaysia, Dato’ Muzammil Mohamad said, “For young Raef Uqael, I was proud to witness our Malaysia Airlines family go the extra mile to make sure that Raef and his family had an extra special journey to Shanghai where he is seeking treatment. We are all praying for Raef’s health and full recovery, Insya Allah,” he added.
Malaysia Airlines first learnt of the family’s plight when it was contacted by a family member arranging for the medical trip to Shanghai. The airline then sponsored tickets for Raef and his parents and offered discounted rate to accompanying family members.
Upon arrival in Shanghai, the family was greeted by Malaysia Airlines’ staff at Pudong International Airport.
