The tourism sector, which is considered a major underpinning of the national economy in Jordan, contributed $2.9 billion to the state’s treasury or 13 per cent of gross domestic product in 2015, according to Minister of Tourism Nayef al-Fayez.
The minister indicated that the sector provides employment to more than 120,000 Jordanians, adding that, it continues to boost the Kingdom’s reserves of foreign currency.
He called for shedding more light on this sector,
Speaking at a seminar in Amman on Monday (March 28), the minister said regional conditions overshadowed the overall performance of the tourism sector last year.
