Malaysia will host the 2019 IWWF Waterski World Championship in Putrajaya in August 2019. The event is expected to attract 1,400 international and 2,000 local attendees over the 7-day event from 12 to 18 August, 2019.
The announcement was made by the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) and Malaysia Major Events (MME), a division of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
A memorandum of understanding (MoU), on bringing the event to Malaysia, was signed last week on the sidelines of the SportAccord Convention in Switzerland.
The championship was previously held in Guadalajara, Mexico in November 2015 that saw 300 athletes from 45 participating countries. It also recorded 200,000 spectators. Prior to that, the event was held in Santiago, Chile in November 2013, whereby 260 athletes participated from 34 countries.
