Last year, there were 26,757,392 visitors, which contributed RM82.1 billion to the country’s revenue. Visitors from five countries account for over 80% of all arrivals in Malaysia. In 2020, the numbers from Singapore, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei could be 13.7 million, 8 million, 3.4 million, 2.2 million and 1.5 million, respectively.
Last year, there was a 7% increase of domestic visitors to 189.3 million. Domestic visitors spent RM74.7 billion, with 35.3% on shopping, 16% on fuel, 13.8% on food and beverages, 11.1% on expenditure at households visited, 8.8% on accommodation, 6.5% on transportation, 5.7% on other activities, and 2.8% on preparations before the trip, tour packages, entrance fees and tickets.
