Malaysia is working on its niche tourism experiences that it can offer to international travelers. Mostly, it is boosting eco-tourism, with destinations including Malaysian Borneo setting the country apart from its Asian neighbors. The Minister of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia said at the WTM in London that Sabah’s unique wildlife is a great attraction for European tourists. There is an increase of tourists from the UK, Spain, Germany and The Netherlands to Sabah.
The Middle East market is attracted to Malaysia’s world-class “Islamic tourism offering,” and is on the increase. Ramadan and Eid are the occasions when more and more Middle Eastern travelers stay in Malaysia. Malaysia is a leading halal tourism destination with the hotels offering all that Muslim guests require.
Homestay offering is another important feature of Malaysia, which offers travelers true local insight. It’s growing in popularity. At this year’s WTM the Malaysian delegation also discussed forthcoming transport links, new hotel openings, exciting upcoming events such as the Miri Country Music Festival, the World Kite Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as exciting airline partnership with Singapore Airlines.
