Malaysian Tourism Minister lists main reason behind failure in attracting more Indian tourists

Malaysian TourismMalaysia has not been very successful in attracting the desired number of Indian tourists to the country. This has been attributed to the limited number of flights between India and Malaysia.

Malaysian Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier, only operated flights to the Chennai International Airport and Mumbai.

He was replying to questions from V.Sivakumar (DAP-Batu Gajah) on Malaysia-India relations in promoting tourism and culture respectively, and the number of tourists from both countries.

“MAS is not aggressive about flying to certain places, and there are places that MAS used to fly to which have since been closed,” he said during the Question-and-Answer session at the Dewan Rakyat (Lower House) yesterday.

In a move to promote tourist arrivals from India, the Malaysian government has introduced visa exemption starting from April 1, 2017 to March 30, 2018, for short-term visits of less than 15 days.
