Malaysian TourismMalaysia’s Perak state is expected to contribute up to RM2.1 billion from its tourism sector to the country’s GDP next year.

State Tourism, Arts, Culture, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman, Nolee Ashilin said currently, the tourism sector was the third biggest contributor to the state’s GDP after the manufacturing and industrial sectors.

Addressing reporters after an evening tea function with the Perak Tourism Association on Feb 2, she said, “There is a lot of tourism potential in the state but the exposure on its existing tourism products is not yet satisfactory, especially in the international market.”

Nolee Ashilin said the state would also be developing new tourism products to promote agro-tourism, with four to five areas already identified to make a difference for Perak.

She noted that the Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) and Ipoh Convention Centre, expected to be completed soon, could attract more tourists to Perak.
