The rejection of entry to the individuals was based on the fact that they did not fulfil the conditions for entry as genuine tourists, Sabah state Immigration Department director Musa Sulaiman said.
“In an effort to ensure a high level of security, immigration officers at entry points have been directed to be more stringent in their inspections,” he told a press conference today.
“The department will not hesitate to prevent the entry of visitors who pose a threat to security or harmony in Sabah.
The department had also made it compulsory for all visitors to go through biometric inspection, while the passenger checklist was regularly updated, he added.
Musa said the department has detained 18,874 undocumented foreigners last year in integrated operations with the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
