The Swiss border guards sent a man back to Italy as he smuggled himself to Switzerland inside a suitcase on a train. With the help of a border guard, the 21-year-old man travelled all the way to Switzerland inside the suitcase.
The man was detained from the train station near southern Chiasso municipality in the Ticino region on Monday 4th July.
In the past, several migrants and refugees tried to smuggle themselves into Europe from Italy. But the Swiss border guards never encountered anything like this incident before.
Swiss border official, Mirco Ricci stated that they have seen people to sneak in inside a car’s trunk. But this was the first time when they found someone in Ticino inside a bag.
The man was found to unzip the suitcase from inside. Several travellers witnessed him coming out of the medium sized suitcase. His hand came out at first, followed by his head and entire body.
This incident raised a question about the safety of the railway travellers in Europe. This time it was a harmless refugee. But no one can assure that in future it will not be a harmful terrorist inside a trolley! This incident showed us the visible gap in the security system of Europe.
