After the launch of the first flight from Manchester to mainland China has helped drive up annual passenger numbers at Manchester Airport. For the first time in its 78 year history, Manchester Airport has crossed the 24 million mark.
June saw 2,520,036 passengers fly through the gateway, which is a 9.22 per cent increase on the same month last year.
That brings the moving annual total for Manchester Airport to 24,095,206.
Hainan Airlines can partly be attributes for the passenger growth at Manchester Airport. The airline operates four flights a week to Beijing. The service started from 10th June. The inaugural flights were 90 per cent full and load factors for the summer are currently at more than 80 per cent.
Ken O’Toole, chief executive of Manchester Airport, said that, it’s been another strong month of growth for Manchester Airport as they edge further into the busy summer season. They are incredibly proud to welcome and witness the inaugural flight to Beijing, which makes Manchester the only UK airport outside of London with a direct, scheduled service to mainland China. He also added that as the year progresses, they are looking forward to securing more direct routes for passengers across the North.
Manchester Airport is popular among the UK tourists because it provides a lot of destination options which is not provided by any other airport apart from London. These include Los Angeles and Boston, both of which are proving popular with customers looking to access North America.
