One of the well-known tourism marketing body of China, Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organization or MAPTO, is expecting growth from the Chinese market after doubling their promotional activity of late with a travel trade mission to China.
Anita Kane, the MAPTO business development manager took part in the Tourism Western Australia’s Greater China Travel Mission and got together with more than 80 Chinese travel agents.
Ms Kane explained that Chinese visits to WA has increased by over 11 percent in the last three years, hence, the visit was an excellent opportunity to grow business prospects with significant trade partners in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
To quote Ms Kane, “MAPTO is already engaged with the Chinese market, using Mandarin marketing collateral and hosting Chinese-speaking trade and travel media with our partners Tourism WA. Mandurah and the Peel Region is the ideal destination for Chinese visitors given beaches and the opportunity to interact with wildlife is what appeals to them most about WA. They loved that they could cuddle koalas at Cohunu Koala Park, and were also keen to hear about our blue manna crabs and how to go crabbing for them.”
China is Western Australia’s second largest market in terms of total spend and 6th in terms of visitors with 51,100 arriving in 2016.
Of late, Cathay Pacific and China Southern has declared that efforts which will be expanded to the capacity into WA by about 65,000 yearly seats from Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
“The potential of the Chinese market continues to grow, so we encourage Peel Region businesses to work with Tourism Council WA on the China Ready Accreditation,” Ms Kane said.
