During the just-ended summer holidays, many Saudi regions witnessed as many as 11.3 million tourists who spent more than SR13.5 billion on their trips, according to the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH). The commission said that the spending marked an increase of around 12 percent compared to the previous summer.
There were more than 2.3 million tourist trips inside the Kingdom made by foreign tourists, which is an increase of 21.2 percent over the previous year. The Kingdom collected about SR8.7 billion from the tourists. The revenue generated was about 15.9 percent more than last year.
SCTH said that around 39 percent of the tourists traveled to various parts of the Kingdom to visit their friends and relatives. Those traveling for business represented about 31 percent while those doing shopping were about 12 percent.
Saudis traveling abroad for tourism spent about SR30.5 billion, which is a decrease of about 4.6 percent compared to their spending the previous year.
