According to an international organization of airline and travel industry stakeholders, Philippines and its location is soon to become critical factors in the growth of the tourism sector of Mariana Island. Aviareps along with Marianas Visitors Authority is helping Philippines to become a significant partner of Saipan, Tinia and Rota and other ASEAN member countries.
Jean Lugan, Aviareps Philippine office director explained that country’s proximity and direct flights would be utilized in enhancing the tourism sector of Mariana Island. To quote Lugan, ‘There is a lot of potential in the fact that the Philippines is only four hours away from Saipan and that it is only Philippine Airlines that has direct flights to the Mariana Islands in the region.’ On Wednesdays and Sundays, one can access Philippines airlines to Saipan and Mondays and Thursdays from Saipan making the country great place for tourist inflow from Marianas and other ASEAN countries.
To quote Lugan, ‘The Philippines is looking at 6.5-million tourist arrivals this year. We can easily surpass that by having neighboring countries go through the Philippines first and spend a few days here before going to the Mariana Islands.’ Last year, more than 115 million tourists traveled Singapore and Malaysia from ASEAN region with 30,000 combined visitors.
